Nursing Assistant -
Duties include:
- Nursing assistant assists OR nursing staff with patient transport pre- and post-operatively to various areas within the hospital including ED, wards, critical care units, clinics, diagnostic and treatment areas.
- Nursing assistant performs PACU duties when assigned to that area.
- Nursing assistant performs surgical site hair removal pre-operatively using facility approved hair removal devices.
- Nursing assistant assists in providing messenger type activities and other ancillary support activities for the OR nursing staff including:
- Delivering specimens to the labs; o Delivering equipment/supplies to/from other departments;
- Delivering patients' belongings;
- Checking the blanket/fluid warmer and stocking it up as needed;
- Restocking the OR suite with linens and pillows;
- Locating the stretchers and bringing them back to the OR/PACU areas.
- Transporting the OR/PACU equipment to and from storage areas;
- Maintaining environmental safety by organizing the OR areas and hallways to keep them clutter-free.
- Nursing assistant assists in getting the OR suite ready for the next day by restocking, organizing equipment, and making surgical beds.
- Nursing assistant assists in getting the OR areas ready for the next day by restocking, organizing equipment, making stretchers and placing them in designated areas.
- Nursing assistant must wear personal protective equipment when interacting with the patients.
- Nursing assistant must comply with infection control policies/procedures.
- Nursing assistant must comply with HIPAA and information security policies/procedures.
- Nursing assistant must report all incidents and/or accidents to the supervisor immediately.
- Nursing assistant must treat all patients, visitors, employees, and volunteers with respect, understand the mission and vision of the Charles George VA Medical Center, and uphold organizational core values: Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence.
- Nursing assistant performs other direct and indirect patient-care related tasks as assigned by the Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, and charge nurse.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:30am to 3:00 pm
Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child
.Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
